I'm considering buying a new CPU and have been looking at the AMD Ryzen 5 3500 and Ryzen 3 3100 for gaming purposes. Does anyone have experience with these CPUs or can recommend one over the other?

That's a good point about future-proofing! I'll definitely check out the TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 5 3500 vs. AMD Ryzen 3 3100 for more information on these CPUs. Thanks everyone!

I've been using the Ryzen 3 3100 for a couple of months now, and it's been great for casual gaming and general use. The only time I felt it lacking was during some more intensive games like Cyberpunk 2077 where the CPU usage was really high.

I recently upgraded to the AMD Ryzen 5 3500, and I must say it performs significantly better in most of my games, especially those that are CPU-intensive. The TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 5 3500 vs. AMD Ryzen 3 3100 provides a detailed comparison of these two CPUs, so you might find it helpful for your decision-making.

That's interesting! What about the single-core boost frequency? Does it make a difference in gaming performance?

Yes, the higher single-core boost frequency on the Ryzen 5 3500 does contribute to better overall performance. In CPU-intensive games, having more cores and a higher max boost frequency can really make a difference.

I've noticed that the Ryzen 5 3500 also performs better in professional tools and when running multiple applications simultaneously. However, for most casual gaming scenarios, both CPUs are quite good.

I'd go with the Ryzen 5 3500 if you're looking to future-proof your setup. The extra cores will help with more demanding games that come out in the future, and it also has better overclocking potential.
