I'm currently trying to decide between the AMD Ryzen 3 3100 and Ryzen 5 2600 for my gaming PC build. Can anyone help me with some advice?

Hi @Reda-Wos! Both CPUs are great choices for gaming, but they do have their differences. You should check out this TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 3 3100 vs. AMD Ryzen 5 2600 that compares them in detail. The Ryzen 3 3100 has a higher base frequency and single-core max boost frequency than the Ryzen 5 2600. However, it also has fewer cores.

Thanks for the link, @bojustbo. I appreciate it! So, if I'm mostly going to be gaming, would you say the Ryzen 3 3100 is better or worse in terms of performance?

For gaming, both CPUs should perform pretty well. The Ryzen 3 3100's higher single-core max boost frequency might give it a slight edge in some games, especially those that are more CPU-intensive. However, the Ryzen 5 2600 has more cores which can be beneficial for certain games and overall system performance.

That makes sense. What about when it comes to things like streaming or browsing the internet? How do these CPUs compare in terms of general app usage?

For general app usage, both CPUs should also perform well. The single-core max boost frequency is more important for tasks like web browsing and video streaming. Both CPUs have similar base frequencies, so their performance in this regard should be pretty much on par.

Just remember that having more cores can be beneficial when it comes to running multiple applications simultaneously without noticing a performance impact. So if you plan on multitasking or running resource-intensive apps alongside your games, the Ryzen 5 2600 might be the better choice.

Good point, @bojustbo. I'll definitely keep that in mind. Thanks for all the advice, everyone!
