Performance

Please keep in mind that these results are on an overclocked P4 "C" from 2.6Ghz to 3.25Ghz with the vcore set at 1.65V, 250FSB x 13, 5/4 FSB/RAM divider active. As you can see, the Vantec 92mm Tornado beats out the Sunon medium speed fan, mainly due to it being bigger (92mm as opposed to 80mm) and the Vantec 92mm having about THREE times more airflow! I didn't even bother trying to use the stock Intel heatsink as it would crash indefinitely.
Noise, the noise!
Remember that 56.4 dBA noise rating which I was talking about
in the beginning of the review? AHHHH!!! My ears, my beautiful ears! This fan
is LOUD! It literally sounds like a vacuum is running 24/7 in my room even with
the case closed. I left my room door open and walked straight down the hall
to the bathroom, which is about 25ft away, and I could STILL hear the fan! My
suggestion: don't get this fan unless you can deal with the noise or, if you
do get this fan, get a fan controller while you're at it. Most fan controllers
can handle the 12.5W load of this fan, but you should check the specifications
just to make sure. Here's a graph of dBA levels and examples from J.E. Gasho & Associates,
Inc.
Conclusion
I'd have to say that I'm impressed with the performance of this fan. It has 119CFM of airflow, which can only be beaten by the Delta 120x38mm FFB1212EHE (190CFM!), it has good packaging, and the pre-installed grill, which will save a few fingers. The noise is a huge minus; its just way to loud for my tastes. Currently I'm using the Sunon fan until I can get a fan controller. I would recommend this fan to anyone that can deal with the noise or has a fan controller. Overall, it is a great fan and a great buy!
