Comcast purchases TechTV
Posted by Kevin on 03/26/04 at 6:00 PM

If you can remember, Comcast recently attempted to purchase the Walt Disney Co. for around $50 billion. That offer was rejected.

Comcast now instead purchased the much smaller TechTV cable network for around $300 million.

A little history regarding TechTV -
TechTV was launched about 6 years ago, with the name of "ZDTV." It was then later changed to "TechTV" in 2000 when Vulcan Programming, a company owned by Paul Allen, the co-founder of Microsoft, purchased the network.

HP LightScribe
Posted by Kevin on 03/09/04 at 12:50 PM

Some of you may be familiar with Yamaha's DISCT@2 Technology which "allows the user to burn text and graphics onto the data side of a CD-R disc." (click the above link to see a picture of DISCT@2)

Later this year, HP will be introducing a "LightScribe" Technology which "allows consumers to create silk-screen quality labels on their CDs or DVDs by burning text and graphics directly onto a disc, eliminating the need for adhesive label."

I believe this new technology will produce a monochromatic image on the top surface (as oppose to DiscT@2 which takes up data area on the bottom side of a cd). You will have to purchase special cds to take advantage of this, expected to be slightly more expensive, and the cd drive will increase in price by about $10 USD.

Discuss this LightScribe Technology in the forums!

TechReviewer.com Changes
Posted by Kevin on 03/04/04 at 1:03 PM

Just to let everyone know what is happening on the back-end of TechReviewer.com:

I reprogrammed a lot of the code for the website so that we could use long integer URLs, so that news websites could more easily track our articles posted.

What changes will you notice? The main difference is just the name in the URL. I made it so all URLs in the old/new format will both work (backwards compatible). Besides that, you might notice that some of our "Related Sites" Links will not appear for a short amount of time, until the pages with new URLs get a little traffic. This is as expected.

Thanks for usinig TechReviewer.com for your tech needs. We will continue to provide great reviews for your future purchasing decisions!

Have any suggestions, or find a problem with the changes made? E-mail comments to Kevin@TechReviewer.com
