ClearType
Posted by Kevin on 11/30/03 at 11:18 AM

Ever want to smooth the edges of a screen font, but thought that ClearType was annoying because it made letters too bold?

Today I found this cool Microsoft site which allows you to turn on and off ClearType, select it for use on a RGB or BGR screen, and tune the font smoothing to the density you desire. This is a very handy utility!

Deskbar
Posted by Kevin on 11/07/03 at 6:01 PM

Ever get tired of waiting for your browser to load? Ok, maybe you have a fast computer but are just too lazy to open up your browser to make a google search. Now you don't have to!

Yesterday, Google released a cool new tool called Google Deskbar, which allows you to type your search query into a small bar located on your taskbar.

Now, this is only a beta, so it could have a few issues, but it looks pretty nice! One cool feature which it includes is the ability to launch the search results and websites in an embedded browser, which reduces the time needed to launch your own browser. You can then of course launch the page in your own browser with a click of a button and the Deskbar will automatically close.

Pretty nifty, I'd say! Check it out now!

Iris
Posted by Kevin on 11/01/03 at 5:42 PM

I just posted our review of Iris Network Traffic Analyzer! It is a VERY interesting tool by eEye Digital Security.

Iris is a network management tool used for monitoring a small organization's network. More than a network packet sniffer, Iris will actually reconstruct the packets that were captured, thus allowing you to view the content that other users on the network have transmitted or received. Thanks to Iris's simple GUI, almost anyone from an IT professional to a curious boss could use this tool to their advantage.

Check out the review today!
