Longhorn using GPU
Posted by Kevin on 10/30/03 at 2:40 PM

According to the article "Microsoft to juice up graphics processors in next Windows" from SeattlePI.com, Longhorn (the next generation of windows) will use the computer's GPU to "present everyday computer images in a manner typically reserved for high-intensity video games."

In my opinion this will greatly raise the bar for minimum requirements for this OS, making older systems obsolete unless they are used with a different OS. Microsoft had to make a decision, and start making these older computers obsolete, or else Windows would never evolve into something greater than it has been in the past 4 generations of the OS. I view this as a good choice on Microsoft's part.

Memorex Modz
Posted by Kevin on 10/28/03 at 8:18 PM

It appears that Memorex is getting into the area of computer mods. Last week they introduced their new Memorex Modz product line. While it currently made up of some cool cables, fans, lights, and other accessories, it is expected to grow in the future. Memorex's product manager, Melanie Lukesh said, "With the technology know-how and experience to keep up with the demand generated in this market, Memorex ensures modders a wide product selection from the get go, while development of the line will continue to introduce high-quality, affordable, Memorex-branded parts in the future,"

Today I got word that we might be able to get our hands on a few of the products to test out! We'll see how that goes.

Radeon 9600XT Reviews!

Another winner for ATI in the mainstream video card market, it's priced at around $199. Reviews at,

Tom's Hardware

Both very good reads. Performance wise it's just a tad bit faster than a Radeon 9500 Pro.

Flash MX Bible
Posted by Kevin on 10/19/03 at 12:24 PM

I just added a new review on the Flash MX Bible book.

The Flash MX Bible is a Book and CD combination which includes a significant amount of information for learning how to use Flash MX. Not only does it cover a wide range of information, but it also includes tutorials, articles, and useful material which can help developers and designers not only in flash, but also in their common project workflow.

We removed the forums for now because they weren't being used. If we find a need to bring them back in the future, we still have the option of doing so.
